Delve into the world of SILK and get to know about this cutting-edge laser vision correction technique.

What is SILK?

SILK, short for "Smooth Incision Lenticule Keratomileusis" is a state-of-the-art laser vision correction procedure. It works by reshaping the cornea, the outermost layer of the eye, to correct refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. By precisely sculpting the corneal tissue, SILK aims to improve visual acuity and reduce dependence on glasses or contact lenses. This innovative procedure offers patients the opportunity to achieve clearer, sharper vision with minimal discomfort and downtime.

How Is SILK different from other vision-correction solutions?

SILK stands out in the realm of vision correction as a cutting-edge solution that combines precision, innovation, and comfort. Unlike traditional methods, SILK utilizes advanced laser technology to sculpt the cornea with unparalleled accuracy, ensuring optimal visual outcomes tailored to each patient's unique needs. Its sub-Bowman's keratomileusis approach allows for a smoother and more controlled procedure, minimizing the risk of complications and maximizing patient comfort.

Consult our expert team at MediVision to know more about the SILK process.

What is SILK Eye Surgery?

SILK is a laser eye surgery that creates a thin lenticule (disc) of tissue below the cornea’s surface later removed through a small incision. A femtosecond laser is used to create microscopic bubbles within the cornea and then remove the corneal lenticule. This results in flattening of your cornea thus reducing or eliminating near sightedness with and without astigmatism.

Criteria for SILK Eye Surgery

Below are the basic criteria for SILK surgery:

  • Patient must be at least of 18 years of age.
  • Myopia up to -12.00 D with and without astigmatism up to -6.00 D.
  • Patient should have stable refractive error for 6 months
  • Patients who are not pregnant, lactating, or of child-bearing potential and practicing a medically approved method of birth control
  • No previous history of intraocular or corneal surgery of any kind

How SILK Surgery Works?

Before the Procedure: Anesthetic eye drops are used to numb the eye, ensuring a painless treatment.
During the Procedure: A precise femtosecond laser creates microscopic bubbles in the cornea to reshape it. A thin lenticule of tissue beneath the cornea’s surface is then removed through a small incision.
After the Procedure: The entire procedure takes less than 15 minutes, and while the recovery time varies for each individual, most patients can resume their daily activities within a few days.
